10 Of The Greatest Apple Stores From Around The World
Apple is known for its minimalistic yet striking designs. Just look at the iMac, iPhone, iPod and iPad and you’ll be able to observe a general theme of simplicity and practicality across all products. These are the workings of Jonathan Ive, Senior VP Industrial Design at Apple and his talented team.
What is surprising, though, is the fact that Apple incorporates its iconic design into all of its retail Apple Stores and this makes for some rather awe-inspiring buildings.
Enlisted after the jump, are some of the most beautiful Apple Stores from around the world. I hope you enjoy the list
New York, USA (5th Avenue)
A ominous glass cube with a hanging Apple logo invites you to enter it and see what mysteries lies beneath it. This is an Apple Store in Manhattan. The actual store with all its iGadgets is underground.
Ginza, Japan
Another Apple Store that looks absolutely dazing in its simply beauty is situated in Ginza, Tokyo. Ginza is considered to be one of the most luxurious shopping districts in the world.
Carrousel du Louvre, France
This is one of the flagship Apple Stores. Situated in France’s captial Paris, The Carrousel du Louvre store is a stunning piece of architecture. Fans of Apple and architecture must surely visit this.
Sydney, Australia
The Apple Store in Sydney is the 2nd largest Apple Store in the world. It also holds the record (among Apple Stores) for having the largest logo and the longest Genius Bar where customers can receive technical advice for their Apple products.
London, UK
This is the largest Apple Store in the world. Its architecture is inspired by England’s very own buildings. It is located at 235 Regent Street in London.
San Francisco, USA
Situated at Stockton Street in America’s 12th most populous city, this is one of Apple’s most popular Stores in America.
Montreal, Canada
One of Apple’s smaller Stores (at least when compared to the ones in NY, Boston and Sydney), this store is situated in Downtown Montreal.
Chicago, USA
Situated at 679 N Michigan Avenue in Chicago, this Apple Store is another example of Apple’s expertise at design.
New York, USA (Upper West Side)
There are five Apple Stores in New York. The one mentioned at the top is located at 5th Avenue while the Store shown below in located at Upper West Side. This is, by far, my favorite Apple Store. I loved it when I saw how beautiful it looked from the inside.
Boston, USA
Situated at 815 Boylston Street in Boston is the largest Apple Store in the United States.
The iconic design of all the Apple Store has resulted from Apple’s partnerships with companies like Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, Eckersley O’Callaghan, Eight Inc., Gensler, and ISP Design (from Wikipedia). Besides this, Apple’s own design team chips in for the architecture.
Apple has received numerous architectural awards for its store designs. And rightfully so!

funny that they knocked down a historic building in DC (Georgetown) to put up the most boring building that area of the city.
All these others are awesome, why they left DC to a sterilized, horrible facade is beyond many of us here. And they knocked down a beautiful building to do so…

Wrong.
The building that got knocked down was a 70′s era clothing store. It’d been a crappy eyesore ever since.
I like the new Apple store. But if anyone is interested, there was a hilarious battle between Apple and the Georgetown zoning board in which the board basically approved the initial design, but then Apple came back with an ultra modern design, pissed off the board, and once everyone settled down, effectively built the initial design.
I like it. It charts a nice course between Georgetown style and Apple style.

I use Macs, so I’m not anti-Apple, but I find the Apple stores incredibly sterile and boring inside. Also, it’s nearly impossible in the Japanese shops (I live in Tokyo) to access anything because people are always standing in front of them playing for hours. When you have a population that is used to standing on trains, in restaurants gulping noodles, or in bars, it’s nothing for them to decide to kill time playing with Macs for prolonged periods of time. Apple needs a different design for the Tokyo stores if they want anyone who actually wants to buy anything to have a chance to sample the merchandise. :-p

Er… is that not because it was an already existing building?
